For years now, dozens of NYC rap denizens have been saying they’re “bringing New York back”, and while some have stayed true to their word, that revival has yet to be really seen. The trap/Southern sound still trends heavily, and the lack of boom-bap is still scarce. Top 40-style songs, EDM and Hip-Hop/Rap music devoid of drums and breaks still top the charts. Now, thanks in part to Sirius XM’s DJ S-Whit, we get to explore what went wrong and how we can progress to revive the classic sound in her latest, upcoming Kickstarter-funded documentary, #TheNewYorkRapRevival. The doc will feature AZ, Sway, Troy Ave, Rob Markman, Emilio Rojas and a host of others. You can help contribute to the project by visiting this link.
