Damn…
It is with beyond a heavy heart that Duck Down Music is sadly confirming that Sean Price passed away early this morning in his Brooklyn apartment, Saturday, August 8th, 2015. The cause of death is currently unknown, but it was reported that he died in his sleep. He’s survived by his wife, and his three children.
Sean Price, who turned 43 in March of this year, was a beloved rap artist. He was 1/2 of the group Heltah Skeltah, a key member of the Boot Camp Clik, and a successful solo artist, known simply as Sean Price.
Sean’s family and friends are asking for time to grieve and process the news. Further details will be issued when more information is available.
Man, where do I start? Sean Price was the man! If you’ve been visiting the site over the years, you know how big of fans Mek, JES and myself are. From his early days with Boot Camp Clik and Heltah Skeltah, to his solo affairs and time with Random Axe alongside Guilty Simpson and Black Milk. His ability on the mic was unmatched – no one did it like P!
A few years back, I was lucky enough to spend sometime with Ruck, when I helped shoot this hilarious clip of him trying to sell a “historic” potato to Chumlee at The World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop (aka… the home of the History Channel’s Pawn Stars). We’d met before, and he always saluted the DopeHouse, but being able to interact with him on a personal level was a treat. He was a real one.
How do you want to be remembered in the rap game?
I think people will go “Yo! That nigga can rhyme!” And I’m cool with that. It’s the rap game, man. I wish that they would go “he’s dope and had 8 platinum records” but I don’t and that’s cool. For those that don’t know. Sean P? That motherfucker can rhyme. I’m cool with that because motherfucker, I can rhyme! [Noisey]
You got that right, P! Rest in Power, Ruck. You will be greatly missed…
crushed and heartbroken. we love you Sean #RIP

Sean Price went from being a childhood hero of mine to a great friend. He was the most competitive MC I've ever met & kept me on my game.

Sean Price R.I.P. Still in shock. Beast of an MC and had the rare knack of still knowing how to have fun with rap. Horrible, horrible loss.
