Back in the early 2000’s The Senate mixtapes started showing up all over Upstate, especially Syracuse. This mixtape was unusual, because it was not created by an established DJ or nationally known artist, but by a local rap group. Their music could be heard playing in barbershops, house parties and blasting out of cars throughout Salina, Bellevue, Gifford, Fayette, Midland and Brighton. The tapes were being sold all over; at gas stations, record shops, corner stores and out of car trunks. This mixtape movement was known as The Senate, a 5 volume series of straight bangers that left the streets wanting more.
Fast forward to the present, and one of The Senate’s founding members, Taj Mahal, is seeing his musical career evolve. Now with his own record label, film company, and recording studio, Taj is quickly rising to the ranks of a Hip-Hop mogul.
