Clipse Talk Til the Casket Drops (Video)

blame it on Shake November 30, 2009

With their album finally dropping next week, Pusha and Malice explain the stories behind several tracks. The above clip features Push speaking on his favorite track, Freedom. As well as both of them on how their mistakes are deeper than rap.

NEW YORK — The Clipse’ new LP, Til the Casket Drops, is finally coming out next week, and all the brother-duo can do is smile.

“I was just vibing out to it,” Malice said of the album recently. “I don’t [usually] listen to [the album]: I do it, I lay it down, I wait for it to get ready, then I go back and absorb it. I feel sorry for a lot of cats. We got that album right now.”

Malice said it was “unfair” to ask him what his favorite song from the LP, was but he did list a few he was partial to; “I like ‘Champion,’ ‘Popeyes [Popular Demand],’ ‘Showing Out,’ and ‘Door Man’ is incredible.”

The Clipse recently shot a video for “Door Man” in Virginia.

“[That’s a] real crazy track,” Malice continued. “It’s everything you want to see, how life is at home for us: getting money, the ‘hood and your homies. We lost a lot of family, so … When I say ‘family,’ I mean people that were down with us, people near and dear to our hearts. Entourage. People who helped build this whole Clipse thing. We been through a lot, but we’re still celebrating — remembering how everything was, how it was supposed to be.”

“It’s almost like ‘America Undercover,’ ” Pusha explained of the clip. “We have that ‘America Undercover’ feel, that type of documentary style.”

Meanwhile, Push says his favorite record is undoubtedly “Freedom.”

” ‘Freedom’ is a redemption song,” he said. “It’s an apology, it gives a rhyme and reason for a some of the things and some of the attitudes of the Clipse. It says ‘sorry’ just as much as it says we’re better [than other rappers], and we’re still the best … ever.”

Both Clipse member maintain that their mistakes are deeper than rap.

“Nothing musically,” Pusha answered about what they’re apologizing for in “Freedom.” “This is our lives. This music has affected a lot of people and lot of lives around us. Once we get from in front of the camera, there’s a whole world out there that we’re a part of: family, friends, streets. It’s a lot that goes on and a lot that goes on behind this.”

“A lot of sacrifices have been made behind this music,” Malice offered.

“Yeah that’s the word: sacrifice,” Pusha added with a laugh. “That was a good word.”

“The music drove me crazy,” Pusha raps on the track, which was produced by Sean C and LV. “I’m only finding comfort in knowing you can’t replace me/ What a thing to say/ But what am I to do/ I’m role playing the conscious n—a/ And true is true.”

Sean C and LV also produced “Never Will It Stop” where the Clipse spin tales of stacking money and ciphering off bricks of powder. DJ Khalil brings a reggae flavor track to the snitch-admonishing “There Was a Murder.” The Neptunes produced “Life Change,” which features Kenna and also talks about redemption.

“I was wretched pitiful, poor blind and naked,” Malice, who also describes himself as a troubled soul with heartache in the song, raps. “So much so, I left my family forsaken … So much dough, but my spirit ever so vacant.”

Later, he rhymes about changing his life and raising a family of four. “I’m back on board due to the Lord’s GPS,” he continues before offering positive hope for the youth.

Casket, which also includes the Kanye West-featured single “Kinda Like a Big Deal,” comes out on December 8, along with albums from Gucci Mane, Snoop Dogg and B.G.

“Amazing,” Pusha said about being released on a hip-hop-heavy week. “We’re in good company. Let’s keep all the traffic coming! I believe if you going in [the store], you’re gonna have more than just 10 dollars to spend. You might have 50. We’re gonna get one of them [purchases].”

  • xNnoitra

Im Surprised You Guys Didn’t post it as it leaked last friday along with the yo gotti track

  • kanne

    they support the artists^^

  • Oh Baby! The date has almost arrived. And seriously, I cant remember if it is shake or meka who tweeted that they have already heard it, But you have made me quite jealous. I mean, do you realize how long I have been waiting for this album? I am like the biggest clipse fan. I mean, Peter (my attorney) calls me pusha T when we are breaking each others chops. I mean, I loved Lord Willing and I loved all of their mixtapes. And I mean, what cant you say about Hell Hath No Fury? I mean, the clipse is probably the greatest Rap group ever to be out. No one can do it better then the clipse. I mean, like, can anyone give me a Mr. Me Too? With a dab of Kanye and a sprinkle of Cam’ron and DJ Kahlil on the boards>? This album cannot get any better. I mean, did you see the ratings it got in its review?
I mean, these 2 dudes, Pusha T and Malice brought a whole new swag style to the game. I mean, this will go down in history. I am just saying, the lyrics are definitely going to be off the wall. No one has flow like Pusha T or Malice. And sprinkle in Some Neptunes beats on the boards….can u say CLASSIC!
I am so into that Popular demand song. Camron spits viciously over the beat. The Virginia cats are back with a veangence. I would have loved it if they would have had a gucci mane or weezy guest apperance.
I have been a fan of clipse since the start. I am talking Exclusive Audio footage. what u know about it. Every morning I pop this in my cd player and rock out to this when I am getting ready for work. I mean, this is motivational music. Till The Casket Drops is a certified Banegr and it did not even drop yet, If you young 2dopeboyz are going to buy 1 album this year, this one better be it. You have no idea.
I mean, if you have never listened to the clipse, give it a whirl. It is like soooooo sickly! You have production by the kats Sean C & LV. Who are nasty when it comes to the boards. I mean it, 2dope.
Then you also have The NEPTUNES (oF course!!!) and DJ Kahlil. With featured superstar artists like the lyrical heavyweight ricky freeway ross. And you know u got that touch of R&B flavor on here with Keri Hilson. You also got a track with Ab-Liva,(who is bananas). I am just saying, it does not get much better then this. This album should go platinum. Seriously dukes, please support the clipse movement. Please. Get ready for December 8th. For the clipse is coming.Has anyone heard the first single “Im Good”? I mean, the clipse are the greatest. No one can touch their flow. They are the true originators.

I am just saying, this is pure hip hop. u need to get a taste, you will never go back. Pusha T and Malice are coming to a hood near you. How can anyone say Pharrell or the NEPTUNES, fell off? Their beats on here I have heard are pure BANGERS!

RIP To Hip Hop, cuz the clipse just claimed the thrown.

  • Seriously duke, Take that link down. That is not cool. Seriously Meka or Shake, please lambast this fool for illegally providing illegal links to illegally download this album. I swear that is such a filthy move dude. Think about the artists hard work. Thanks for helping ruin Hip Hop.

  • “Im Surprised You Guys Didn’t post it as it leaked last friday along with the yo gotti track”

yea… and weve had it for 2 weeks prior to the leak. unlike most blogs, the NMC support artists. and we all said we arent posting anything outside of their singles, etc.

  • kanne

there should be a character limit good god

  • thecollegecurb

i just listened to the leak… freedom, never will it stop, life change, some of my favorites. definitely buying this joint!

  • Thanks for taking that Linky down shake. Good looks. besides, God is watching these dudes that are robbing from the artists. Remember anyone who leaches or illegally dls is being watched by god our savior. Karma is a bad thing. You dont want that on your plate when god is judging you on judgement day…..Seriously, I dont think some of yall use your heads.

    And to Mr. MarlstanField,
Who are you to talk about me. I dont know u and you dont know me. Watch your mouth. Do you kiss your momma with that mouth? I mean it, todays youth is sooo misguided.

  • thecollegecurb

…and i don’t leak albums. support the artist!!!!!!!!

  • Dude stop posting the link. This is disgraceful. Go to another board because leachers and seeders are not welcomed here. This is a place where us hip hop elitests support and not disregard

  • marlostanfield85

    anyway peep foot steps yet?

  • heard a good number of the leaked stuff earlier, and I wasn’t aware any of it was out until a friend told me earlier cuz I always come to the (2)dope for updates thinking y’all were gonna leak it lol but it’s all good. 1st off, the neptunes beats are the ish on this album, some of their best productions in a while. and as a duo, pusha always starts off a song with that catchy flow to catch the listener’s ear while malice finishes off the track with straight lyricism (he’s the silent killer). the lyrics laced on some these songs are mad deep, glad they talk about their families and stuff, how they open up to the fans about their true lives is real. regardless of whether some of their lyrics is made up, their talent is undeniable. this is arguably their best album & at this rate they will receive much needed recognition. VA ALL DAY!

  • that dude

“I mean, Peter (my attorney) calls me pusha T when we are breaking each others chops.”

Possibly the funniest thing I’ve read today. Great music by the Clipse though *ahem*

    A definite MUST COP!
