Outkast’s Debut Album Turns 20 Today

blame it on Shake April 26, 2014

Nas’ Illmatic isn’t the only album turning 20 this year. On this day, exactly two decades ago, Outkast jumped on the scene with the release of their own debut, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik.

There’s nothing I can say that hasn’t been said already, so I’m just gonna paste a few video embeds below and let y’all reminisce in your own way.

“Crumblin’ Erb” never got a visual release, but it’s still one of my favorite Outkast songs of all time. So, here you go…

The Ohio Players – Sweet Sticky Thing (as interpolated by Outkast on “Crumblin’ Erb”)

  • Arun Gopal

Man, Southern hiphop is the best type of hiphop.

    • AndOneill

This type of Southern hiphop, not most of the whack ass trap shit that that comes out

  • Nicolas Thomas

Git Up Git Out is in my top 3 OutKast songs. This album is definitely one of their best, I put it 3rd behind ATLiens & Stankonia.

  • fox

OutKast is the greatest ever! I don’t care what anyone else says. They were so ahead of their time that their albums sound like they could have been recorded yesterday.

  • I thought this was pretty cool.. KRIT, Gibbs and other southern artists share the influence the album had on them:

    • shake

      Good find. Thanks.

    • who cares

That’s dope, but whoever thought it was a good idea to lay the article out horizontally is a moron.

  • JamMaster James

94 was such a dope year for hiphop
    Illmatic, Infamous, Southernplayalistic…
I bought this album when I was 14, I remember it like it was yesterday, it was like no HipHop I had ever heard. Personally one of my favourite albums of all time, so different, so fresh and so clean.
