A$AP Ferg’s ‘Always Strive And Prosper’ Has Arrived!

I’ve been waiting for this one for a minute.

Once “New Level“—a bombastic re-entry to hip-hop after a brief year of relative silence—dropped, you could tell A$AP Ferg was hungry. Before the end of 2015, the Harlem native had spent the past two years building his post-Trap Lord buzz touring the country, dropping his Ferg Forever mixtape, and landing on songs by the likes of YG (“Click Clack“), Haim (“My Song 5 (Remix)“), Big K.R.I.T. (“Lac Lac“), and SBTRKT (“Voices In My Head“).

Ferg wants more, though. And it’s clear from the first sound from his newest album, Always Strive And Prosper. He’s on a higher platform than he was coming up as a member of the buzzing A$AP Mob, but he’s not quite where he wants to be. The shoe deals and providing for your family are nice, but it’s never enough. You should always, well, be striving and prospering for more.

And that’s where his new LP arrives. The project lands at 18 songs with features from ScHoolBoy Q (“Let It Bang“), Ty Dolla $ign, Missy Elliott (“Strive“), Skrillex (“Hungry Ham“), Lil Uzi Vert, Big Sean (“World Is Mine“), his mother and plenty more.

Based on features alone, there’s no doubt this is his largest mainstream effort, but with the singles thus far, he’s delivered a pretty solid direction. It’s time to see how the rest of the project plays out.
