First Donald Glover, then Common, then John Legend, and now Ice Cube.

Following in the footsteps of Atlanta (Glover), ’93 Til Infinity and Black Wall Street (Legend), Cube has teamed with Disney Studios to create a modern-day musical of Charles Dickens’ second novel Oliver Twist.

Cube — who is starring in the upcoming comedy Fist Fight — will work with Tony-winning Hamilton director Tommy Kail, CEO of television production and talent management company The Firm, Jeff Kwatinetz, and producer of Wicked Marc Platt to bring Oliver Twist to life.

As well as producing it (through his CubeVision production company), Ice Cube will co-write the screenplay with Kwatinetz and will portray Fagin in the musical.

Disney last envisioned Oliver Twist in the 1988 animated film, Oliver & Company.
