So, in between all of these problems between Taylor, Nicki, Meek, Drake, Ghostface, Bronson, me, you, your momma and your cousin too, it’s quite easy to forget that there’s a biopic on N.W.A. hitting theaters in a few weeks. What may be more overlooked, however, are the comments that Ice Cube, the various cast members of the film and the director of Straight Outta Compton F. Gary Gray said during a recent interview.
Stopping by Power 99 in Philadelphia, the two ran the through the usual gamut of questions about the film, before they asked a question about the movie’s accompanying soundtrack. Cube then responds,
“Actually, Dre is dropping an inspired album, inspired by Compton. He’s dropping something on August 1st.”
Wait… August 1st!? But that’s in a few days!
At this point I, as well as the rest of hip hop America, don’t really believe that that Detox – which has since usurped Guns N’ Roses’s Chinese Democracy as the most delayed album of all time since GNR’s LP dropped in 2008 – is ever coming out at this point. However, the nostalgia-ridden old head in me is quite interested in seeing what or if Dre will do in the next 48 hours. At this point, it couldn’t hurt.
UPDATE: Rolling Stone confirms the legitimacy of the album – stating Dr. Dre produced all new material – but claims their sources have denied the Saturday, August 1st release. Instead, Dre is expected to make the announcement. Which… was kind of already done, right?
