March 8th was International Women’s Day, which celebrated the great steps women have made in history. Unfortunately, there were the usual assortment of asinine quips on social media (“why isn’t there a International Men’s Day?” they said. Le sigh, I replied). Even Cee-Lo Green — yeah, exactly — had a song dedicated for the day.
Needless to say Bridget Kelly‘s contribution to the day, “Not Afraid,” is more than a welcome reprieve from all of that. Taken from her Summer of 17 project, Kelly says on the song “I’ve never done well with change, especially when it’s out of my control. Somehow I’ve made strides in spite of the insecurity and heartache I’ve experienced. I’ve been counted out and cried until I couldn’t breathe. As much as it hurts I’m not afraid to keep going.”
