KXNG Crooked Rocks an Outkast Classic on “Cadillac”

blame it on Shake April 26, 2019

When it comes to this blogging thing, it’s hard to believe we’ve been doing it for damn near 12 years (this October). During that time, 2DopeBoyz has helped usher in plenty of new artists and been a part of some truly great movements in hip hop—including TDE, Dreamville, and Slaughterhouse.

One thing, we’ve always done is hold KXNG Crooked up as one of the nicest emcees to ever hit the booth. It was an honor to assist and support his epic Hip-Hop Weekly series back in 2007-2008. And then two years after that, when he reloaded with 15 more drops. So, when he announced at the top of this year that he’d be embarking on another year-long weekly campaign, there was no doubt in our mind that we’d be supporting every single Friday.

Already three months deep into the series, Crook (and producer Dizz) have ran through various flips of hip hop classics. From Dr. Dre’s “Still D.R.E.” (on “Live 4 It“) and Ice Cube’s “A Bird In Hand” (on “Bishop“) to Snoop Dogg’s “Tha Shiznit” (on “Once Upon a Time in the LBC“) and the Fugees’ “Killing Me Softly” (on “Jewel Emoji“), there’s really no beat they can’t rock.

For the 17th installment, which happens to land on the 25th anniversary of Outkast‘s debut album, the Long Beach titan salutes the Atlanta duo with a fresh take on their ATLiens single, “Two Dope Boys” (which is where we got our namesake, obviously).

What makes this drop even cooler for me, personally, is that Crook even took some time to shout out the blogs that have supported him over the years–calling Meka and myself out by name to help close things out.

“Who flipping your favorite records, me and dizz/
Two dope boyz, shout out to Shake and Meka”

We’ve been lucky enough to have our site name mentioned in songs by some of the greats (from Kendrick to Bun B), and every single time it happens, the feeling can’t be explained. It’s just really dope.

So, long ass post aside, check out the bar-work on the Dizz-laced “Cadillac” below.
