Nikki Jean Returns with ‘Beautiful Prison’ EP

blame it on Shake September 13, 2019

Nikki Jean is back with her first project in five years.

Although she earned her stripes as the lead singer of Nouveau Riche and caught her first break in the industry with her contributions to Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool while living in Philadelphia, Nikki Jean was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. So, it only makes sense, she linked up with Rhymesayers Ent. to release her latest project, Beautiful Prison.

“Things are frequently not what they appear. When I see this picture (above) I see the scar fading on my throat. Remembering how things looked beautiful from the outside but my body was literally choking me,” Nikki says. “Tumors wrapped around my vocal nerves. I am so grateful to have found my voice both figuratively and literally.. grateful for the many beautiful prisons, situations, relationships, states of mind that have taught me the true meaning of freedom, and that it’s always available to us.”

Equipped with seven songs, including “Pink Lemonade,” Beautiful Prison includes a lone feature from Lupe, leaving Nikki with the keys to drive home her message of empowerment and perseverance. Check it out below and be sure to add the EP on your preferred streaming platform.
