Los Angeles veterans Styliztik Jones (he’s the rapper) and J. Wells (he’s the rapper-producer) have collectively worked with the likes of Snoop Dogg, T.I., and Ghostface Killah among several others. The pair have now teamed for a collaborative album, VIBES.
Out in early 2020, the project will feature contributions from dead prez, Too Short, Organized Noize, and the late Nipsey Hussle. Speaking of Short, he is joined by ‘Scoe and James DeBrage (yes, of the DeBarge family) for the project’s title track.
“I was working with Too Short on The Pimp Tape when I asked him to feature on my project. Surprisingly he picked “Vibes” a more laid back record we had just put James Debarge on” Wells said to DX. “I asked him a few times if he was comfortable on this type of track and he surprisingly said the track reminded him of a legendary group that he always wanted to work with, but the label (Jive) always opposed the idea and prevented them from collaborating together. I asked him what group he was talking about and he told me A Tribe Called Quest. It’s an honor to get this rare perspective from the rap legend on record.”
