In April, one of the most influential hip hop groups ever will be the subject of a Spike Jonze-helmed “live”documentary.

On April 3rd Apple Music (and IMAX, in select theaters) will unveil Beastie Boys Story, based on the life and times of Michael “Mike D” Diamond, Adam “MCA” Yauch and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz— better known collectively as the Beastie Boys. Described as “the story of three friends who inspired each other and the world,” the film is based on the live and limited-engagement show Diamond and Horovitz held in 2019 (which itself was based on their 2018 memoir, Beastie Boys Book).

The documentary arrives on the 26th anniversary of Beastie Boys’ 1994 album, Ill Communication, which was led by the single “Sabotage” (which Jonze directed the video for). Coming to Apple TV, a trailer for it can be seen below.
