I can’t tell you off the top of my head the last time there was new music from Jack Davey. But I can tell you who owes her Father’s Day cards.
Jack, along with Brook D’Leau as J*Davey, were one of the earliest purveyors and pioneers of the lo-fi, alternative, electronic-steeped “dark R&B” that has become the industry standard a decade after their introduction. While the pair has retreated behind the scenes to work with a myriad of other artitsts, Jack has reemerged from a lengthy hiatus to release a new MAXI single, WYWH.
Packaged as one long track (as a tribute to Prince), the track extends four songs: “‘Good Guy,” “Everything U Ask 4,” “Devil,” and “I Should Be Sleeping.” It may have taken a long time, but we’re more than ecstatic that she is back in our ears and minds.
