Gangsta Boo Passes Away

Today (Jan. 1) is the final day of Kwanzaa, Imani (or, “faith”): to believe with all our hearts in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders, and the righteousness and victory of our struggle.

With a heavy heart, it was announced that Memphis rapper Gangsta Boo tragically passed away today. Née Lola Chantrelle Mitchell, she was a member of the influential Three 6 Mafia, which also included DJ Paul, Juicy J, Lord Infamous, Crunchy Black, and Koopsta Knicca among others (Lord Infamous, also a nephew of DJ Paul, passed away in 2013). Boo released her solo debut album, Enquiring Minds, in 1998, which had the popular single “Where Dem Dollas At!?

Boo would leave Three 6 Mafia in 2002, continuing her solo career and releasing several albums and mixtapes. In recent times, she would collaborate with a variety of musicians, including Latto (on “FTCU“), Run The Jewels (on “Walking in the Snow“), JunglePussy (on “Stamina“), and newcomers such as Hannah Monds (“Big Momma”).

She was only 43 years old.
