Freddie Gibbs’ life changed on June 4, 2016. Before performing in France, he was arrested and extradited to Austria after being accused of raping a woman a year prior. A couple months later, he was formally charged with multiple sexual abuse charges, which would’ve kept him in jail for decades. In September, though, almost four months after the initial arrest, all charges against Gibbs were dropped.

He maintained his innocence from the beginning, but the experience — especially being away from his daughter — has seemingly given him a new outlook and a new chance at life. His first album since the incident, You Only Live 2wice, delves into the experience.

Lasting eight songs, including the first single, “Crushed Glass,” the album has no features. BADBADNOTGOOD and Kaytranada produced the album’s second single, “Alexys,” and Teddy Walton, Speakerbomb and more added production across the tracklist.
