UPDATE: Drake offers an explanation – well, sort of.

Original post…

Ever since we first heard D.R.A.M’s “Cha Cha” (and his accompanying #1EpicEP), we’ve been big time backers of the Virginia native. And with his GAHDAMN! EP on the horizon – led by the incredibly fresh, SZA-assisted “Caretaker” – you better believe the support will stay strong.

Tonight, D.R.A.M. took his talents to Toronto to perform for the first time. Unfortunately, after the show, instead of praise, his timeline was flooded with comparisons between “Cha Cha” and Drake’s “Hotline Bling” (which just got a video). If you remember, Drake was said to remix “Cha Cha” when it first started bubbling – but it never went down. Instead, “Hotline Bling” – which sounds eerily similar – was released as an official single and the rest is history.

Finally, after ignoring it for as long as he could, D.R.A.M. took to Twitter to air out his thoughts on the situation – saying he feels he got jacked, but is GOOD on the whole situation.

Just to be clear, this is about the original version of “Cha Cha” (available below) and not the one you now hear in the video, or on Apple Music, Spotify, and every other outlet. If you missed the memo, D.R.A.M. was forced to switch it up due to sample clearance issues – which, if I remember correctly, occurred right before “Hotline Bling” dropped.

Another thing to make note of… when “Hotline Bling” first debuted on OVO Sound Radio, everyone was referring to it as Drake’s “Cha Cha” remix. Hell, there was even artwork being made:

At the end of the day, they’re both solid records, but does D.R.A.M. have a right to feel this way? Let us know!
