Original post…

One of the first surprises in hip hop has to be the impending release of 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne‘s collaborative album, Collegrove. Set to release tomorrow (March 4th), the album likely follows in the same vein as the 2015 mega-star team up between Drake and Future, What A Time To Be Alive.

The album comes at a virtual crossroads for Wayne. Having spent a significant amount of time trying to free himself from his longtime home Cash Money Records, he has seemingly since patched things up with its head honcho/his surrogate father Birdman (even though his $51 million lawsuit is still on the table) and Collegrove will appear to mark his first major label release since his Free Weezy Album. Meanwhile, 2 Chainz has simply found a comfortable groove on the mixtape scene, dropping a surprise EP Felt Like Cappin’ and releasing a hilarious video for his “Watch Out” from his Trap-A-Velli Tre project. That’s in between going out of his way to constantly give back to families in need.

Before Collegrove is released, the two gave Beats 1 Radio’s Zane Lowe the green light to unveil the follow-up to “Rolls Royce Weather,” “Gotta Lotta.” The song is in the same New Orleans-style bounce vein of Mannie Fresh’s “Hate,” with Wayne crooning in Auto-Tune and Young Tauheed bringing up the rear. Hear it below.
