If there’s one thing any fan of J Dilla absolutely has to do today, it is to watch this.
Both Mass Appeal and PayJay recently, and officially, released what was to be James Yancey’s major label debut The Diary in April 2016. Now the two have collaborated to reveal this mini-documentary on the creation of the album. The aim was to show Dilla’s skills as a rapper, and relegating the production throughout the album to producers like Nottz, Pete Rock, Hi-Tek, and several others. The documentary is composed of both vintage footage of Jay Dee as well as conducted interviews with Nottz, Hi-Tek, Karriem Riggins, and more.
