With all the tragic events going on — from Alton Sterling and Philando Castile’s murders to the ongoing scene in Dallas — JAY Z felt the need to speak his mind. And what better way to do it, than through music.

Recorded a year ago, “Spiritual” was originally going to be released when Mike Brown died, but Hov never finished it — and, unfortunately, he knew that “this issue will always be relevant.”

Released through Tidal (Apple Music needs to hurry up and buy), the painfully timely offering is Hov’s first solo release in years.

Check out a statement from Jay and hear “Spiritual” below.

On top of his own song, Jay also shared a playlist called “Songs For Survival” — which includes songs from Kanye West (“Ultra Light Beam”), Kendrick Lamar (“Alright”), Gil Scott-Heron (“The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”), Nina Simone (“Four Women”), and more.
