Nico Segal — known largely in the music world as Donnie Trumpet — has been a mainstay at the DopeHouse intertwined with Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, Kids These Days and the SaveMoney crew for years now.
He plays the trumpet, thus the lighthearted name Donnie Trumpet, but he’s evolved into a more prominent artist, leading the artistic effort of The Social Experiment’s first album, Surf.
While it’s pretty outlandish, people are apparently drawing connections between Donnie Trumpet and President-elect Donald Trump, assuming that there’ any association between the two.
Now trying to distance himself from “Trump’s hateful tone” and “hurtful message,” Nico has officially dropped the Donnie Trumpet name. He’s simply Nico Segal now.
He explained the name change in a note on Facebook.
