Garren Sean – “Finer Things”

blame it on Patrick Glynn July 26, 2017

Back in November, Garren Sean was known by his first name, when he released “There He Go,” the first single from his forthcoming project. Then in June he resurfaced with “Lift Off” adding in the “Sean” to his moniker, and here we are now just a couple days away from his debut project, GARREN, LP.

With his name and the project’s release date locked down, Garren Sean releases one more single, “Finer Things,” before the Friday release.

“‘Finer Things’ is about enjoying the wave and spending money when you have it, but staying real at the same time. The story is being told to a significant other who is afraid that more success will start to change your idea of what’s important in life,” he told The Fader. “I made the beat a whole year before I wrote to it for my album. At first I approached it like it could be a hot rap song on somebody else’s project, but ultimately I knew I needed to do my thing on it.”

Of all the singles from the project so far, “Finer Things” is probably most reminiscent of production we’ve heard from his before, namely Chance the Rapper’s “Smoke Break” and Joey Purp’s “Photobooth.” It’s loud, joyous, and it feels successful — all qualities the lyrics follow. Spend money on something if you’ve got the money. You deserve it.
