How bittersweet is it that this new song from Phife Dawg, taken from his final album Give Thanks, is produced by another fallen hip hop icon J Dilla? On top of that, it drops during a time where his legacy is being tributed to in both Queens and Harlem, NY? Suffice to say, it’s a bit hard to listen to this track but fans can take solace that the 5 Foot Assassin is in a much better place.

This song comes with a great cause, too. According to his widow (via statement), “50% of the proceeds from the song’s sale will be donated to the American Diabetes Association and the National Kidney Foundation.” Hear it below.

UPDATE: Last night, there was a celebration of the life of Phife at the Apollo Theater in New York, where the likes of the remaining members of A Tribe Called Quest, Kanye West, Andre 3000. Watch some of the speeches below.

On top of the heartfelt speech, 3 Stacks also revealed some bittersweet news about a ACTQ x Outkast album that was planned, but never executed.

“I’m going to say some disappointing news and some interesting news at the same time. About a year or two ago we were taking about doing a Tribe Called Quest and Outkast album. And for whatever reason it did not happen. I don’t want to let the time go by, please people don’t let the time go by. And that’s one of the biggest things I regret now. We didn’t do it, it was on our plate, and we just… let it go.”
