So Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are really going all-in on this pay-homage-to-old-hip-hop thing, huh?

This morning, Ebro premiered a new song from the independent duo featuring KRS-One and DJ Premier called “Buckshot” on Hot 97, and it’s a direct ode to early-90s New York rap in a style only Macklemore and Ryan Lewis can do — that is, to water it down to a point it can be commercialized but sound respectful enough to not get too many people mad. The duo’s first single from the album, “Downtown,” had OGs Melle Mel, Kool Moe Dee and Grandmaster Caz deliver raps in their signature form, as well.

“Buckshot” has a super lighthearted feel to it, though it consists of rebelling against the powers that be. Two things I like about this: KRS-One, though the verse isn’t amazing, steals the show alongside signature DJ Premier scratches and how this validates my belief that Ryan Lewis the best half of this duo. This man is a chameleon when it comes to producing.

Listen to “Buckshot,” which I assume will be put on iTunes sometime soon, below. This Unruly Mess I’ve Made is out February 26.
