Although he may not be a household name, Promise has been doing his thing for well over a decade.
Releasing his debut album, The Promise That Heaven Kept, in 2002, the Toronto emcee went on to release two more albums (2008’s More Than Music, 2011’s Awakening) and a slew of mixtapes—including the 2DBZ presented D.O.P.E..
My support of the Toronto emcee actually started before the DopeHouse was built in ’07, during my days at HipHopDX. I remember stumbling across a handful of his songs and only needing one to form an opinion on homie. One listen to “In God We Trust” with eLZhi and J. Ivy was all I needed to know Promise would be a mainstay in my iPod (which was probably a Zune or Creative Zen back then, ha).

Over the years, Promise has worked alongside the likes of Jhené Aiko, Royce Da 5’9″, Lecrae, the late Sean Price, Skyzoo, and Fashawn. He even rocked with Comeback Season-era Drake on a song or two as well.
Fast forward to present day and P is gearing up to release his next album, TellAVision, this Friday (April 22). And today, we’re presented with the project’s first single, “Right Now” featuring Crystal Nicole.

In a culture that honors instant gratification and seeks out quick satisfaction, “Right Now” enters the scene with a refreshing spin on our longings for that “best life now”—presenting an answer that looks heavenward, fulfills our deepest yearnings, and lasts into eternity.
