Wait… wut?
Yesterday (10/22) marked the fifth anniversary of Kendrick Lamar‘s second studio album and major label debut, good kid m.A.A.d city. The DopeHouse commemorated the occasion and brought back our exclusive interviews with Kenny (“Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst“) and Jay Rock (“Money Trees“), but Punch perhaps dropped one of the bigger bombshells about the project.
Taking to his Twitter account, the President of Top Dawg Entertainment revealed some details about the album. “The goal was to make a album in the vein of a Tarantino movie,” he begins, “where the scenes aren’t in chronological order but it flows cohesively.”
He then revealed that he wanted none other than André 3000 to be on the album’s second track.
“I remember trying to get 3 Stacks on ‘Don’t Kill My Vibe’,” he says. “He couldn’t catch the vibe lol. He was shooting the Jimi Hendrix movie [2014’s Jimi: All Is by My Side]….”
Eventually JAY-Z joined Kendrick on the remix. But, if the stars were aligned, fans could have possibly gotten a version of “B*tch, Don’t Kill My Vibe” that featured André and Lady Gaga.
Yo, how is everyone? Let's talk about gkmc for a second. It dropped 5 years ago today. Y'all remember that album?
