After an incredible week in music, we’re back with another installment of our Weekly Dope playlist.
It’s no secret we’ve been dumb excited for Dave East’s Kairi Chanel project, so it shouldn’t be surprised the East Harlem emcee took the cover this week. Plus, the album is dope as hell! I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve played it, personally. And picking just two songs for this week’s mix was damn near impossible. There’s really no dull moment, but we ultimately went with “It Was Written” and “30 N*ggaz.”
East wasn’t the only artist to drop a project worth checking out, either. Cudi might have delayed his album, but Danny Brown didn’t — he even dropped Atrocity Exhibition a few days early. Apollo Brown and Skyzoo teamed up for The Easy Truth, DJ Mustard unleashed his Cold Summer project, Blu & Fa†e dropped a joint album, Solange surprised fans with A Seat At The Table, BANKS shared her sophomore effort, Pac Div’s LIKE dropped some Songs Made While High, Aesop Rock and Homeboy Sandman are Still Buggin’, and Curren$y came through in the eleventh hour with Andretti 9/30.
On top of the projects, Ab-Soul returned with some fire. We got collabs from Gucci Mane & Lil Wayne, Meek Mill & Pusha T, and Juicy J & Kanye West. A$AP Rocky returned, Kanan 50 Cent took on Young M.A’s “OOOUU,” The Weeknd took a left after killing his old self, Kid Cudi went “Surfin” with Pharrell, and more.
